Every Day Is Earth Day: Week 5

"We have to shift our emphasis
from economic efficiency and materialism towards a sustainable quality of life
and to healing of our society, of our people and our ecological systems"
-Janet Holmes Court

1/31/11:
Simmer Cinnamon.
Instead of synthetic fragrance, simmer a few sticks of cinnamon and a few cloves of allspice in a pan of water on the stove to make your house smell naturally inviting.

2/1/11:
FACT:
"Hundreds of studies over the past decade suggests that many industrial chemicals have potent effects at very low levels because of the way they perturb the endocrine system and, in effect, trick our hormones into disarray.
This can have profound health effects over a lifetime."
-Nena Baker, The Body Toxic

2/2/11:
Opt for powdered mixes over trucked in liquid drinks or frozen concentrates.
Pound for pound, powdered mixes have a lower carbon footprint.

2/3/11:
Fix bathroom leaks and run an exhaust fan.
A moist bathroom is a haven for rot, mold, and insects.
Fix leaky toilets and faucets.
Mop up spills.
Ventilate so air circulates and keeps the room dry.

2/4/11:
Steam clean your carpets.
Conventional carpet cleaners use fragrance and other synthetic chemicals that are harmful to health.
Choose companies that don't use synthetic chemicals.
Allow the carpet to dry completely

2/5/11:
Use cloth napkins.
Use up your supply of paper napkins then never buy them again.  Use cloth napkins instead.
Always prefer reuseable products over those made for one time use.

*~ Have a Beautiful Day! ~*
