There's a lot of really great Christian songs that I think are beautiful (even if you're not a Christian).
Since today is Easter (and I've been awake since 3am!), I figured it'd be nice to write about my favorite Christian songs.
I didn't grow up going to church, so I don't know a lot~ But the ones I DO know are AWESOME.

*Side Note- Most if not all my favorite Christian songs are the slow and emotional ones.
I'm a "Frozen Chosen"- I always feel awkward when we have to clap to the fast ones.  =P

Marvelous Marina and the Diamonds

I first discovered Marina and The Diamonds when the extremely talented Makeup Artist Lauren O'Jea  posted the "I Am Not A Robot" song on her facebook page.

I watched the video, and I remember loving all the different makeup looks, but thinking the singer was really quirky and odd.  Her voice sounded kind of funny and the all black makeup kind of freaked me out.

But the video and song definitely intrigued me, and after listening to it a few more times.... I was hooked.

Since I first heard Marina and the Diamonds last Fall, I've become a huge fan.
I think she's a really unique singer, I love a lot of her lyrics, and she makes really interesting videos.
It seems that each week, I discover a song that I like even better than the last one.
I hope you can appreciate her as much as I do!

She'll be performing at NYC's Webster Hall in June~ I can't wait!!!

MAKEUP IS ART- Professional Techniques For Creating Original Looks

For the past 2 years since becoming a Makeup Artist, most of the books I've read are beauty related

(and the occasional Self-Improvement book~  What can I say... I love makeovers whether it be on the outside or the inside!).

I have read/skimmed through dozens of beauty books, but there hasn't been one that has brought about an actual gasp of excitement until recently.

I opened up a package in the mail from my cousin to find the book

It. Is. Amazing.

I'd been meaning to write about this for about a month since the book came out, but I knew I had to write about this book when I was looking through the book in the morning before work, got to work and a copy of the book was there, and there was a huge ad for the book in an issue of  Makeup Artist Magazine~ all in the same day.  It was a sign.... I was MEANT to share this book with all of you (and sooner than later!)

I love fashion:  It's a quick and easy way to express your creativity, your mood, your style, and personality.
How you look should not be the most important part of who you are, but it does make a difference and you should make some effort.

Your appearance can affect how you behave, how you are perceived by others, and even how you feel about yourself.

When I wear clothes that don't fit me well/ aren't very flattering, I can feel a little insecure and end up constantly thinking about my clothes.
When I dress up/wear clothes that are flattering, I feel prettier, more confident, and the day seems more special. 

I also tend to get a lot more compliments~ which is always nice   =D

What is "The Price of Beauty"

I have been completely out of the loop on T.V. (and everything else in the world...) these days.
One show that I watch online regularly is Jessica Simpson's "The Price Of Beauty".

I'd been a huge fan of "Newlyweds" back in college (OMG.... she didn't really say that... did she?!?!), and it was sooo sad when they broke up. (I still say Team Nick and Jessica all the way)
Now... Jessica is more mature, single, and emerged as a (seemingly) more Confident and Strong Woman.
( Sheesh.... The media can be soooo cruel.  Such haters!?!   >=T     )

Little House- My Favorite Song Right Now

I'm sorry... I know I promised I'd write more Beauty Related articles... but I just needed to share this song and I don't think my FB friends appreciate it as much as I'd like.    =T

"Little House" is a gorgeous song that I fell in love with instantly.
It's from the "Dear John" movie soundtrack and sung by the actress Amanda Seyfried.  She has such a beautifully haunting voice and I love the lyrics.  I think I have a  new girl crush... and a new song to play on repeat.

I love how songs can mean different things to the person who hears it.
It's amazing how a song can become a part of your life... and this is definitely a song that will have significance to me.

*This song makes me not want to be afraid of the what if, to take chances, and reminds me how beautiful love can be.

Love Is In The Air- My Favorite Romantic Movies

There are people out there that don't believe in love.  I don't really understand those people....
You may not be in love, you may have had your heart broken, but how can you deny that love exists?

If you're not a believer in love... watch these movies!

(Although they may not make u believe.. but they should melt ur cold cold heart a little)  ;)

Umm... it's kind of long... but I didn't want to miss any of these.  Can u tell I'm a romantic?   =)

About A Boy-  This isn't a typical love story, but I love this movie and it deals with different aspects of love.  Highly recommended.  "If there's hope for Will, there's hope for us all"

Amelie- My FAVORITE movie. I fell in love with it from the credits.  This is such an amazing movie- The music, the cinematography, the story.... I love it all.  Amelie is a lonely girl who decides she wants to help people.  A WONDERFUL WONDERFUL movie. 

Can't Hardly Wait- Ethan Embry is sooo adorable in this movie.  Lots of cameos.  Fun bubblegum pop movie.  So good~*

Father of the Bride- The love between a family... especially the father and daughter.  How can you not love Steve Martin and Diane Keaton?

Ghost- A modern classic. Great movie.  Watch it if you haven't yet. Demi Moore before her cougar days ;)

How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days- My FAVORITE romantic comedy.  Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey are great together.  So charming, so funny, so hot!!!  Love it!!!

Love Actually- Another movie that looks at all different aspects of love. Lots of different stories and relationships. 

Moulin Rouge- I actually thought this movie was really weird the first time I saw it... and didn't know what to think. But I watched it a second time soon after and fell in love.  Baz Luhrman is amazing~*
The first part is crazy and comedic, the second half is more of the love story and dramatic.  One of my favorite movies. Simply beautiful. 

Never Been Kissed- I love Drew Barrymore. And she is oh so lovable and cute in this movie.  Michael Vartan is hot.  SUCH a cute movie!!!

The Notebook- This is probably the love story of our generation.  Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling are sooo great together.  Beautifully filmed. 

Notting Hill- I love this movie.  I was able to go to a lot of the places they filmed at in London so it's even more special to me.  Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant bring their A game.  Lovely Lovely film. Simply Brilliant!

Pretty Woman- A modern day Cinderella story... if Cinderella was a prostitute  =T 
Julia Roberts at her best. ***** (5 stars)

(Baz Luhrman's) Romeo and Juliet- I don't care what anyone says... this is my favorite Shakespeare play.  The movie is fantastic.  Baz Lurhman brings the story of the young star-crossed lovers into a whole new world filled with music, colors, and action.  Very exciting. Very sexy (Hellooooo Leo!).  Very engaging.

Sixteen Candles- My favorite John Hughes Rom-Com.  Samantha's Sixteenth Bday sucks.. but gets better eventually!

Splash- I loved this movie growing up... and I don't think I even really understood it.  It's still a great movie.  Love Daryl Hannah as a mermaid.

Titanic- Two of my favorite actors... this is an epic movie.  I've seen it probably over 10 times... and I still don't get tired of it. Sooo beautiful and romantic... except the fact that Kate Winslet hogs the suitcase in the water (She DEFINITELY could have made some room for him... but whatever...)

A Walk To Remember- I loooooove this movie. I actually like the movie better than the book.  It's a great story.  Great music too. 

When Harry Met Sally- Can men and women be friends?  Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal address this question in this great movie.  So funny. So smart.  So cute. And who can forget the diner scene~ "I'll have what she's having!" A must-see modern classic!

10 Things I Hate About You-  Heath Ledger before he became "Heath Ledger".  A great comedy that'll make you reminisce about when you were young.  Great cast.

50 First Dates- Filmed in Hawaii. Drew Barrymore is gorgeous... Such a cute film.  One of my fav's.

So.. These are some of my all-time favorite movies about love in all it's wonderous (and miserable) glory.  If you haven't watched these, I hope you do because they're sooo sooo good!!!

T.V. Shows To Watch

I've decided I'm going to learn how to budget. Best way for me.... Don't leave the apartment.
As I've mentioned before, I have a shopping problem.  Doesn't matter where I go... I can spend a ton of money.

So what is a girl to do when confining herself to her apartment?  Well, this girl attempts to clean her notoriously messy room (What can I say... I have a lot of stuff...) while watching t.v. (computer).
Here are my recent picks and favorites!

Being Erica- I recently came upon this show on Hulu.  It's kind of similar to "The Butterfly Effect" and "Back to the Future"... from a girl's persepective.  Erica's life kinda sucks when we meet her and she has a lot of regrets.  She meets the myserious Dr. Tom, who has the ability to send Erica back in time to correct her "mistakes".  It has a good storyline, good actors, and is a fun show to watch that can make you reflect on your own life.  Lots of old 90's music you probably forgot about. Season 2 just started airing on the Soap Network

Modern Family- "One big (straight, gay, multi-cultural, traditional) happy family". This show is sooo funny. My friend Daidan told me about it, and he's got great taste in shows.  This show tells the story of 3 different families.  Jay (Al Bundy) is the Father who remarried a hot younger Latina with a son. He also has 2 children of his own. Mitchell is the straight-laced gay newly adopted father of a little Asian baby (so cute!). His partner Cameron is HILARIOUS~ Love him. The other family is Claire- mother of 3.  Her husband may be my favorite character~ The father who only wants to please and so naive.  Watch this show!!!

Kitchen Confidential- Hot guys. Delicious Food. Fast and Witty Banter.  Did I mention hot guys?  What else could you ask for?  This show is based on Chef Anthony Bourdain's best-selling book "Kitchen Confidential."  The Beautiful Bradley Cooper (Panda's BF) plays Jack Bourdain... a former addict (drugs/alcohol/women) who becomes the head chef for Nolita.  It gives a background to what goes on behind the kitchen.
The show also stars John Cho (Yay for Asians on TV!), James King, Xander from Buffy, the young brother from Freaks and Geeks, and a few other people you'll recognize. This show is very quick-paced... very New York.  Unfortunately it was cancelled after 13 episodes (FOX~ YOU SUCK!), but it was great while it lasted. 

So... if you too are staying in and vegging out, check out these fabulous shows.  It's free, entertaining, and probably better than spending $100 on drinks and getting hit on by gross guys/girls. Enjoy!

The Lovely Bones

I used to read a lot when I was younger. I would always carry a book around with me~ I'd read at restaurants, during dinner, waiting around in the car, and in the bathtub.
My favorites were Roald Dahl books (Especially Matilda),  the Sweet Valley High series, and the Baby Sitters Club series (I always played Stacy while Rita played Claudia)... much to my mother's chagrin~ she wanted me to read more classic books.

Once I got to High School... Reading took a back seat to playing.  Haha... Yes... I will admit that I was a horrible student growing up.  My teacher's always said I had "lots of potential".. but that potential was used gossiping about my latest crush, passing notes in class (and getting caught occasionally), and planning when we were going to sneak out to NYC again!
Thank God for Cliffs Notes and Spark Notes.


I only started reading for pleasure when I went to London my Junior year of college.  One of my three roommates was reading a Blue book with a picture of a charm bracelet on it.  My roommate said the book was really good, and I could read it when she finished.

I started reading the book... and I fell in love.  My love of reading had been reawakened!  Reading is awesome!

The Lovely Bones is a beautiful story about a young girl named Susie Salmon who was brutally raped and murdered (This happens in the beginning so I'm not really spoiling anything).  The rest of the novel is basically about Susie looking down (not specifically from Heaven or Purgatory) on her friends and family and seeing how her death has affected their lives.

It's been a really long time since I read this book... but it's my favorite.  When I see cheap copies of the book in the library or at thrift stores, I will buy them so I can lend them to my friends.
I've lent this book to many people and most of them have loved/really liked it.

The book is very graphic at certain parts~ The rape scenes are especially difficult to read because the author was raped in real life and it's so realistic
I received a call from Tracy at 2:30 AM screaming, "OMG!!! WTH is this?!?!? I'm so scared right now! I can't go to sleep! I'm not reading this! Why did you give this to me?!?!"
However, if you can get past the graphic details.... it is soooo well written.

The movie is coming out on January 15 (Sorry Doyle... Peter Jackson beat you to the punch... but you can make a better one someday!)
It doesn't look that great... but I'll still watch it.  If you plan on watching this movie, I highly recommend you read the book before.  If you find out the whole plot from the movie before reading the book... the experience won't be the same.

So... I hope you read this book and love it as much as I do.  It's changed my life.
And get off Facebook and read a REAL book!  ;)

Here are some of my favorite female singers.  They're all great writers, singers, and have lots of personality. I love strong girls that have more to talk about than love and heartache. These fabulous ladies are quirky, have spunk, and aren't afraid to say whats on their mind.  You may know some of these lovely ladies... you may not.  I hope you enjoy their music as much as I do. They are the sh*t.

Kate Nash-  She is someone I discovered last year and have been playing her music non-stop ever since.  She's English/Irish (Love it!), plays piano and guitar, and has some of the cheekiest lyrics around! She rocks!

Foundations- "You say I must eat so many lemons, because I am so bitter"  One of my favorite songs.

Mouthwash- I can relate to this song. And not many people write about dental floss! =D

Merry Happy- Girl Meets Boy. Girl Loses Boy. She'll be fine!

We Get On- A whole mini story in a cute song. 

Pumpkin Soup- The girl just wants to snog!

Navy Taxi- A beautiful but melancholy song I can relate to.  ~ "I really hate always being late. And now the other train is late... Great..."   "It's your life and no one else's. Don't let someone put you in a box"

Regina Spektor-  I've seen her live a few times and she is fanatastic. She writes her own music, plays guitar and piano.  So cute. So quirky. So talented.

Fidelity- This is the first song I heard of hers. I was in love at first song.

Us- May be my favorite song of  hers. Definitely Top 3. Cool video.

That Time- Weird... but fun~ "Hey Remember that time when my favorite colors was pink and green?"

Apres Moi- Kind of dark, but it's a great song

The Call- A pretty song used in the Chronicles of Narnia movie

Eet- Good song.  "You're using your headphones to drown out your mind"

Laughing With- "No one laughs at God in a hospital. No one laughs at God in a war" "No one's laughing at God when they've lost all they've got and they don't know what for".  Something to think about...


Lily Allen- Her songs sound so happy and cute.. but the girl has a lot to say. So cheeky and naughty!

Smile- Sounds so happy and cheery. But listen to the lyrics

Alfie- Written about her pot-smoking brother. haha.

LDN- One of my favorite Lily Allen songs. "You might laugh, You might frown walkin 'round London Town". "Sun is in the Sky. Oh Why Oh Why would I want to be anywhere else?"

F*** You- Haha. I love this song. Said to be written about Bush or the British National Party... but I find it to be quite universal ;)

Not Fair- Wow.. she wrote a song about a boy who's bad in bed.... sucks to be him~*

As a former Pre-School Teacher (and avid child reader who used to read books in the bathtub), I have read many childrens books over the years.  There are sooo many great books out there, but one gem is by the great Dr. Seuss.

Oh The Places You'll Go is one of my favorite books for children, but especially for adults. I actually don't remember reading this book as a child, but fell in love with it as an "Adult"  (hee hee... I still consider myself a 5 year old in a 27 year old's body).

Although it's a children's book, it really is more for adults.  Children will like the pictures and the rhymes... but if you really read the book, you'll see that it's a book about life that means so much more when you're grown and have actually experienced the ups and downs of life.

I think this makes a wonderful gift to children and adults.  I hope you like it as much as I do!  It really is one of my favorite books.  Dr. Seuss... So Silly, yet So Wise~*

John Lennon's song "Imagine" is one of my all time favorite songs.  I know it can get played out and you may feel like you have heard this song a million times in your life... but it really is such a beautiful song.

Rolling Stone Magazine ranked this song the 3rd greatest song of all time~ and for a reason.

The lyrics are so simple, yet poignant. The melody so simple, yet beautiful

In a 1980 interview with David Sheff for Playboy magazine, Lennon remarks on the message of "Imagine":  
Sheff: On a new album, you close with "Hard Times Are Over (For a While)". Why? 
Lennon: It's not a new message: "Give Peace a Chance" — we're not being unreasonable. Just saying "give it a chance." With "Imagine" we're asking, "can you imagine a world without countries or religions?" It's the same message over and over. And it's positive.
~Hmmm.. maybe some people actually do read Playboy for the articles  ;)   ~

Yoko Ono indicated that the lyrical content of "Imagine" was "just what John believed — that we are all one country, one world, one people. He wanted to get that idea out."

How can you not love a message like that?

Joyful for "GLEE"

Are you a gleek or are you completely out of the loop?  Wednesdays on Fox have been the thing to watch for the past few months.  Why?  Because their new show GLEE is absolutely fabulous!

This show is sooo great. It's made me laugh. It's made me cry. It's made me drive my roommate crazy by playing the songs over and over again! It has AWESOME music. I actually tend to like their versions better than the real ones... and they take songs I don't generally like... and make me put it on repeat! 

I like the character of Rachel Berry (played by Lea Michele) because she's an AMAZING singer.  Her personality can be annoying, but you have to admire someone (even if it is a fictional character... ) who has such passion and drive.

I could give you a full description of the storyline and characters... but it's best to experience Glee for yourself. The first half of the series (13 episodes) is coming out on DVD on 12/29/09, but I think Fox will probably be airing the old episodes again.  Don't miss it!

3. Gold Digger- Kanye sucks, but this is a great song.  Mr. Schuester does a great job!
4. Take a Bow- Rachel's version gives a different feel to the song~ Both are A+
5. Bust Your Windows- Not my favorite song.. but the girl can sing.
6. Taking Chances- I like Rachel's version better than Celine's... and that's saying a lot....
7. Alone- Duet with Kristin Chenowith and Matthew Morrison.  She is awesome.  I like it more every time I hear it
8. Maybe This Time- These two ladies are awesome.Lea Michele holds her own.
9. Somebody to Love- I LOVE this version of the song. Sorry Georgie... Glee beats you in my book.
10. Hate On Me- Sorry.. I'm hating on this song... but you may like it~ =T
11. No Air- I like this better than the original... especially since Chris Brown turned out to be a major P.O.S.
12. You Keep Me Hangin' On- I love the original song (SO 80's!!!)... but good singing and cute dance sequence!
13. Keep Holdin On- I love their version!!!

14. Bust a Move- Haha.. This song rocked in the 90's, and it rocks now! Am motivated to make this my karaoke song!
15. Sweet Caroline- I like this version. I dedicate this to David Abromowitz 'cause you rocked this karaoke song in Hawaii.  Good memories! Shah Kah!
16. Dancing With Myself- I just think it's cheeky of the Glee people to use this song... you do know what they say it's really about, don't you?  ;)
17. Defying Gravity- How can "Wicked" get any better? It just did! (Not to say this version is better..they are both equally fabulous. Just in their own way)

Gaga for Gaga

Lady Gaga- She came out of nowhere and has taken over the world.  Lady Gaga made a huge impact on the music scene in August 2008 with her album "The Fame" and keeps rocking with her new album "The Fame Monster"

I remember hearing the song "Just Dance" on the radio and thinking.. "Ooh, I like this song. It's really catchy!" It soon became the song I was waiting to hear on the radio.  After I saw the music video... it was done... I was officially in love. So much fabulous stimulus: The clothes, the makeup, the dancing,  the hot people writhing on the floor!!! What is all this fabulousness? "Where are my keys, I've lost my phone" ~OMG...This is a song just for me!!!
My favorite scenes:  When she walks in like she owns the room (and she does!), playing around with the disco ball, licking her finger to "Wish I could shut my playboy mouth",  and all her little dance moves before Colbie O'Donnis comes on. So cool.

That was the first song... then I heard the whole Fame album.  SUCH a great album.  This is another rare album where you can play all the songs through.  My favorites are Just Dance, Poker Face, Eh Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say), and Boys Boys Boys!
I used to have Boy's Boy's Boy's as my ring tone during beauty school, and by the end of school , the girls were all humming and singing along! =)  It was my theme song of 2009.

Why do I love Lady Gaga? Oh, Let me count the ways.
She's so different- Unless you're living in a cave, you must have seen some of her crazy outfits: her hair bows, the bubble dress (my favorite), her red lace outfit at the MTV VMAs, the sunglasses, the orbit outfit.
She has great music- The songs are all catchy.  And I feel like her music is different from most pop music.  Not only does she have good songs, she has a good voice.  You may not realize, but when you hear her sing, she has a lot of talent. Her singing voice reminds me of Christina Aguilera.
She's a good dancer/performer:  I love her dancing in "Just Dance", "Love Game", and "Bad Romance"  I went all the way down to Virginia to see her in concert... and it was worth the 5 hour drive. Lady Gaga puts on a show!!! 
She's over the top- To Me, Enough is Never Enough... and she seems to live the same way.  She takes things to the limit... and beyond!

Her  new album "The Fame Monster" is out on Monday November 23, 2009.  I don't normally buy c.d.'s (unless I lose them from the library!) but I had to go out and get this.  I was not disappointed.  There are only 8 tracks, but it's 8 tracks of awesomeness.  Very pop, dance, euro-popish electronic beats. The songs address fears~

Bad Romance- My favorite track.  I am playing it nonstop (to the chagrin of my roommate) but it's such a catchy song and the video is FABULOUS.

Dance In The Dark-  (Fear of Death) A little reminiscent of Madonna's Vogue with the references~
Telephone- (Fear of Committment)  Duet w/ Beyonce (and so much better than Beyonce's song Video Phone)  I like it the more I hear it
Teeth- (Fear of the Truth) Sounds like a Native American dance... ish.  Scandalous lyrics( "Take a bite of my bad girl meat")
